SILICON VALLEY

Short term, this position is a “hybrid” position that requires occasional time in the office. Long term, this position requires minimum 3 days per week in the office. Candidates must reside in Silicon Valley.

Fountainhead is currently conducting a search for an experienced full-time patent case manager to join our team. We are looking for a skilled professional to work closely with the firm’s patent attorneys and clients to provide patent case management support throughout all stages of the patent process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Preparation and review of technical/patent related documents, such as correspondence and filings covering all aspects of U.S. patent prosecution. This will include editing applications, coordinating and communicating with clients, drafting correspondence, preparation of Information Disclosure Statements, assignment recordations, inventor declarations, application data sheets, continuing applications, etc.
  • Preparation of documents for e-filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (includes applications, amendments, paying issue fees, paying maintenance fees).
  • Management of all aspects international patent application process, including PCT applications, non-PCT direct country filings, and corresponding with foreign patent offices and associates, as needed.
  • Docketing and work flow management of correspondence and action due dates to and from the USPTO and international filings.
  • Reviewing, reporting out, filing, and docketing of correspondence.
    Keep current on client/matter histories, firm procedures and processes, and relevant patent prosecution “best practices.”
  • Response to attorney/clients’ needs with a sense of urgency, ensuring resolution with appropriate follow-up.
  • Organization and maintenance of client electronic files.
  • Support paralegal team overflow by providing administrative assistance to colleagues, as requested.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from 4-year University.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in patent case management and administration, including the above-described tasks.
  • Knowledge of USPTO patent prosecution procedures and processes, including Patent Center and other USPTO filing and case management procedures.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Trademark prosecution experience a plus.
  • Experience with CPi docketing system is a plus.
  • Must have a superior attention to detail and have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills are essential with a professional conduct, presentation, and demeanor.
  • Must be computer literate including a mastery of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Positive “can-do” professional with the ability to anticipate need and take ownership of projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with many people in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desire and ability to be part of a growing team, where flexibility is a key.

When Summit invented a charging algorithm that reduced battery charge time by orders of magnitude (“TurboCharge”), they turned to Fountainhead to protect these vital IP assets. Knowing that companies around the world would stop at nothing to “design around” Summit’s innovations, Fountainhead worked with Summit engineers to craft numerous claim strategies to make their IP as impregnable as possible. Summit was later sold to Qualcomm for hundreds of millions of dollars based in large part on their IP portfolio, portions of which was later asserted against Apple.
